Abstract

The founding of the Premio Hispanoamericano de Poesía para Niños in 2004, the publication of Digo de noche un gato by Maria Baranda (2006), and Hago de voz un cuerpo (2007, anthology directed by Baranda) mark the beginning of great literary quality poetry for children. Nowadays, there is a trend of books of poems for children that have a narrative thread and whose poetic voices and/or protagonists are girls. These girls use “words” to empower themselves. “Words” that seek to create a new reality, incantations, or known phrases to which one or few words are changed and their meaning is completely transformed. This message of brave protagonists, of course, reaches the girl readers.

Author Biography

Pilar Doporto

She holds a Bachelor’s in Hispanic Language and Literature at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, FES Acatlán, and a Master of Education in Organizational Management from Endicott College, Beverly, Massachusetts. 

Since 2007 she has dedicated to doing children’s theatre: created and staged 13 theatrical proposals and participated in these as an actress. She teaches workshops to teachers and parents in which she shares techniques to bring children closer to literature and poetry in a playful way. She is currently preparing her first novel and is studying poetry for children.
