Resumen

Los conflictos por los recursos naturales son de los mayores desafíos del siglo. El incremento de los desastres naturales por la injusticia ambiental está intensificando la incertidumbre de la vida. Actualmente, más personas se ven obligadas a abandonar sus hogares como forma de adaptación y supervivencia al cambio climático. La extracción de recursos globales generalmente se localiza en territorios de poblaciones indígenas y pobres, las cuales son desalojadas agravándose con ello su marginación. Para algunos puede ser razonable defender el sistema actual de derechos de propiedad. Sin embargo, este sistema, promueve la competencia y la exclusión por los recursos naturales. Este ensayo es una reflexión porque el llamado de la Justicia Ambiental contra el racismo, es también un llamado a reconsiderar los patrones de consumo actuales junto con la percepción de los derechos de propiedad y el progreso. El desarrollo sostenible no se puede lograr si no abarca a todos.

Biografía del autor/a

Alma Rocío Segoviano-Basurto, Universidad del Medio Ambiente, Área de Derecho Ambiental y Políticas Públicas

Abogada especialista en derechos de propiedad de la tierra (incluidos los sistemas de propiedad comunitaria) y en mediación en conflictos por los recursos naturales, es doctora en derecho de Birkbeck, Universidad de Londres; maestra en derecho por parte de la London School of Economics, LSE; y licenciada en derecho por la Universidad Iberoamericana en la Ciudad de México. Con más de 17 años de experiencia como evaluadora, investigadora, coordinadora de proyectos, asesora y facilitadora, ha colaborado con diversas organizaciones internacionales y nacionales de la sociedad civil, organismos internacionales, instituciones públicas, así como con el sector privado en México, el Reino Unido, Austria y los Estados Unidos; entre ellas, el antiguo Instituto Nacional Indígena (INI), el Grupo de Estudios Ambientales-México (GEA), el World Wildlife Found (WWF-MEX), la Rainforest Foundation-UK (RFF-UK), el Grupo Parlamentario del Reino Unido para la Región de los Grandes Lagos de África, entre otras. 

Actualmente colabora en diversas esferas con la Universidad del Medio Ambiente (UMA) en México; con FARM COMMONS (EEUU); con el Fondo Monetario Internacional; así como con la Cooperación Comunitaria. Ha trabajado con comunidades indígenas como las Nahuas de la región de la montaña en Guerrero, México y Pigmeas en la República Democrática del Congo.
