In the book Un pequeño Montecarlo en el desierto Mexicali 1901–1913, Lorenia Ruiz Muñoz established that prostitution has been developed as a buoyant economic activity for Mexicali's development, in her research a variety of historical records from the early 20th century are analyzed.
