Abstract

This text stands up for the idea that the essay, many times, is a piece of writing as creative not only as poetry, but also as other arts and goes around with this thought.

Author Biography

  • Víctor Manuel Mendiola

    He has published, among others, the poetry books: Vuelo 294 (1997, FCE); Papel revolución (2000, Ediciones sin Nombre); Tan Oro y Ogro (antología, 2003, UNAM), y Selected Poems (Shearsman Books 2008). The essays: Xavier Villaurrutia: la comedia de la admiración (2006, FCE); El surrealismo de Piedra de Sol, entre peras y manzanas (2011, FCE); “El ángel que acompañó a Tobías”, historical literary essay on Ramón López Velarde’s “La suave Patria”, in La suave Patria de Ramón López Velarde (2013, Ediciones el Tucán de Virginia): and "El viaje inmóvil", edición y estudio sobre Primavera indiana de Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora (2016, Ediciones el Tucán de Virginia). 

    He was a Centro Mexicano de Escritores scholar headed by Salvador Elizondo, Juan Rulfo, and Sistema Nacional de Creadores. He has contributed, among other important publications, to the magazine Vuelta and the magazine Nexos (where he was a member of the editorial board), as well as to the newspapers La Jornada, Reforma, El Universal, and Milenio,  

    In 2005, he was awarded the Premio Latino de Literatura for Tan oro y Ogro,  by Latin American Writers Institute of New York. In 2010, he got first place in the Certamen Internacional de Literatura Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz for his novel 4 para Lulú, republished by Alfaguara in 2012. For forty years he has been the editor of El Tucán de Virginia, where four hundred titles has been produced. In 2015, he contributed to Ella la peor del mundo… Él Octavio Paz, a documentary series for Radio Educación, producing twenty mini-essays on the poetry of Octavio Paz. He writes the column “Poesía en segundos” for  “Laberinto”, a supplement of the newspaper Milenio. Recently, he has published the books Tu mano, mi boca. 54 variaciones sobre un plato (DGP) and La bruja (Ediciones Milagro).
