Professional labour market in Mexico in 2022: analysis through a hierarchical multicriteria model

Abstract

Nowadays there’s a productive reconversion in the economy. This stimulates the displacement of the workforce in the labor market, either towards new productive activities or unemployment. Youth with higher education are one of the most affected populations. This is attributed to a mismatch between demand and labor supply. The goal of this study was to generate a ranking of professional careers in Mexico based on their performance in the labor market through an analytical hierarchy process (AHP) to provide support in the career selection process. The results indicate that the three professional formations with the highest number of professionals are not within the top twenty positions of the classification, which indicates a low requirement for these in the economic system. The main contribution of the work is the generation of systemic information.

Author Biographies

  • Cristian Alejandro Hernández Viveros, National Autonomous University of Mexico

    Graduate in Economics from the Faculty of Economics of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM); he completed a Master's Degree in Systems Engineering in the disciplinary field of Operations Research in the Engineering postgraduate program at UNAM. He has a professional career of 10 years during which he has collaborated with an international organization, a civil association, and various state secretariats. He has participated in the preparation of studies related to labor markets, the economic burden of diseases, and reports on social security in America.

  • Mayra Elizondo Cortés, National Autonomous University of Mexico

    Holds a PhD in engineering from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Permanent full-time professor with a C level in Programa de Primas al Desempeño del Personal Académico de Tiempo Completo (PRIDE). She has a 29-year teaching career, teaching subjects in the area of operations research and research methodology. The Technical Council of the Faculty of Engineering granted her a Special Chair in the years 2016, 2019, and 2020, and in 2021 they bestowed her with the "Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz" Recognition.

    She has directed three doctoral theses and more than fifty master's theses. She has published notes on computational complexity, four chapters in Systems Engineering and Logistics books, a book related to research methodology, and scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals. She has held administrative academic positions and participates in ruling committees at UNAM. She is currently the president of the Mexican Association of Logistics and Supply Chain (AML).
