Abstract

Rousseau’s contractualist philosophy implies, due to the very nature of the pact, a constructivist conception of politics. Individuals agree in order to form a collective and also because they believe it will be beneficial to them. Nevertheless, the author demonstrates that this constructivism occurs according to the paradoxical modality loss, rather than its contribution. For the collective to form, it is necessary for individuals to not communicate and ignore one another so that their votes reflect their real interests, rather than interests plagued by the presence of others or simply by the idea of their presence.

Stéphane Vinolo, Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador

Stéphane Vinolo is a Ph.D in Filosofía from the Universidad Michel de Montaigne de Bordeaux (France) and a Ph.D in Teología from the Universidad de Strasbourg (France). Researcher in Seventeenth-Century Philosophy and Contemporary French Philosophy; he is the principal lecturer of the Escuela de Filosofía at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador. Vinolo is the author of 15 books and numerous scientific articles.
