Abstract

The article addresses the issue surrounding the demand for an authentic Latin American philosophy. It proposes to demonstrate that this demand can be interpreted as the search for a canonical insertion of Latin American thought within a global process of philosophical reflection. A historiographical recovery of an archeological nature and a discursive analysis of the dispute that took place around it in the second half of the XX century will be conducted. In this way, the aim is to create awareness of both the enabling conditions on which the idea of an original Latin American philosophy has been constructed, as well as the argumentative strategy employed to legitimize it.

  • Tezkoatl Mitzin Pérez-Alvarado, National Autonomous University of Mexico. Programa de Posgrado en Estudios Latinoamericanos de la UNAM (PPELA-UNAM)

    Graduated in Filosofía from the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras at the Universidad Nacional de México (UNAM). Holds a master’s degree in Latin American Studies from UNAM. He has worked as assistant professor in the master’s program in Philosophy at UNAM. The author was a DGAPA/PAPIIT scholarship holder in the project “Diccionario de Escritores Mexicanos. Siglo XX, en línea”, coordinated by Dr. Aurora M. Ocampo at the Centro de Estudios Literarios of the Instituto de Investigaciones Filológicas at UNAM. He also has chapters published in collective books coordinated by Dr. Mario Malagón Anaya and edited by CIALC-UNAM, as well as his master’s thesis, published in an anthology of memoirs of the PPELA, edited by CEIICH-UNAM.

    Carried out a research stay in the Universidad de la Habana (2018) under the coordination of Dr. Sergio Guerra Vilaboy, as part of his master’s studies. Currently, he is studying the Phd in Latin American Studies at UNAM. Pérez-Alvarado was a member of the “Escuela de verano Chimborazo 2022” held at FLACSO Ecuador in 2022, under the coordination of Dr. Jorge Cañizares-Esguerra and Dr. Mark Thurner. Furthermore, he has participated as a speaker in national and international congresses; the most recent being the “XXI Congreso Internacional de Filosofía” held in 2023 at the Universidad de Guanajuato, Mexico, and the “XVI Encontro Internacional da ANPHLAC” celebrated in 2024 in the Universidade Estadual de Londrina/UEL, in Londrina, Paraná, Brasil. His main area of interest is American ontology and its relation with various articulations of Latin American philosophy within its diverse expressions, such as political metaphysics or historical metaphysics.
