Abstract

An autobiographical essay about menstruation, it explores the memorable events in the life of a menstruating person, the use of different methods to store the blood, and a textile art exercise to re-signify menstrual pain.

Author Biography

Andrea Alzati

Poet and visual artist. She holds a bachelor in Latin-American Literature at Universidad Iberoamericana. Scholarship holder of the Jóvenes Creadores program of FONCA in the discipline of Poetry 2016-2017. Author of the books: Animal Doméstico, (2017 and 2020), Algo tan oscuro que no tiene nombre (2018), and Tomos mis quchillos (2019). Part of her poetic works has been translated to English, Norwegian and Swedish.  

She has explored different techniques such as drawing, photography, video, embroidery, installation, performance, among others. Since 2016 she has worked the installation and performance using mainly toilet paper rolls. Since 2020 she has worked the collage technique with reuse paper from the 40’s recovered from her grandmother’s college notes. She has an interest in calligraphy, religious and sacred motifs and the mystical experience. Part of her visual work can be seen on her Instagram account @aalzati.
