Abstract

The purpose of this article is to discuss the human formation in Rousseau through his work Emilio o de la educación. Through a theoretical study using a hermeneutic method, the text aims to explore the pedagogical novel by the philosopher from Geneva from the perspective of the bildungsroman where he mentions Don Quijote de la Mancha to draw a comparison between the figure of the paladin and Emilio, the main character of his treatise. Human formation, according to the philosopher from Geneva, is not about projecting a hero or a savior of the nation; rather, it offers an optimist educational vision that differs from many interpretations commonly appeared.

Unlike Cervantes, Rousseau does not focus on satirical critique but instead adopts a practical and empirical approach to human development. His proposal involves observing nature and allowing a gradual development that begins in the early childhood stage, focusing on the child’s free adaptation to their environment.
