Abstract

This essay examines the relationship between the promise of human rights and psychological violence, focusing on the inherent ambiguity and abstraction in the conceptualization and application of these rights. It analyzes how political-juridical documents, such as Human Right Treaties and constitutions, can generate false expectations and perpetuate inequality by failing to materialize into tangible improvements for the most vulnerable groups in society. Finally, it raises concern about how the lack of clarity regarding the feasibility of rights implementation can damage the legitimacy of authorities and sustain injustice. This analysis underscores the importance of engaging in a direct and transparent discussion about the limitations and real possibilities of human rights enforcement, as well as fostering greater informed societal participation in defining and protecting their rights.

Pastora Melgar Manzanilla, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Facultad de Estudios Superiores Acatlán

PhD and Master in Derecho from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), both of them obtained with honors. She is a Bachelor in Derecho by Universidad de Quintana Roo and in Psicología from Universidad Tecnológica de México where she obtained the Premio Ceneval because of her outstanding performance in EGEL Psicología. She has professional experience in litigation and in municipal and public administration. She has over 15 years of experience as a professor at undergraduate and graduate levels. She is currently a Full-Time Career Professor-Researcher at the Facultad de Estudios Superiores, Acatlán, which is part of UNAM. She is a member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI). Her areas of interest are: academic integrity and legal research, law and psychology, fiscal policy and human rights.
